My kitchen faucet (a Kohler Forte) was leaking only when the water was running and only when the faucet is turned to a specific location. The leak was coming from underneath the handle. I’m no plumber, but after hours of online research and what wimpy tools I had, I was able to take the thing apart and fix the leak. The leak stopped. Yay!! But now there’s a new problem… When I go to turn on the faucet, the handle is very tight and takes much effort to pull up/down (on/off) and left/right (hot/cold). Boo!! The handle wasn’t this tight before and this doesn’t bother me so much, but I’m thinking that this can’t be good for the faucet since it feels like the action of turning on the faucet is going against its will.
Anyone have a clue what I did wrong? I did turn the mounting nut as tight as I could, thinking that this was causing the leak. Is it possible that I turned it too tight?
Any suggestions, thoughts or ideas would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance!
Thanks, that worked. I loosened the mounting nut just a bit, no leaks and no tight handle! I was just afraid that if it wasn’t super tight, the faucet would leak again and I figured this wasn’t the lesser of two evils.

The sink is only 6 months old, it is dark slate gray stone. It has a pump handle faucet that is oil-rubbed antique finish. The film is not sticky or slimy. It’s dry and white. I have tried SOS, magic eraser, dish soap…almost everything I can think of. It looks great while it is wet and I’m cleaning it but as soon as it is dry, it comes back. Does anyone have this problem and if so how do you clean it? Thank you.
(Please, serious helpful answers only)
I’m sorry, I should have been more clear. It is granite. It was sealed before installation though. I am going to check out the websites. Thanks to everyone for your helpful answers!

Im installing a new kitchen faucet. I have disconnected all hoses and the sprayer from the kitchen sink. I have disconnected the handles and stem.
My problem is Im not sure how to remove the two washers directly under the sink handles for cold and hot. Once I get them off I should be able to remove the remaining locking nut on each side.
Any suggestions to get these rusted pesky washers off?
I have the following tools at my disposal:
Basin Wrench
Pliers
Screwdrivers
Drill
Dremel Rotary Tool
Small Chisel
Hammer
Mallet (Metal and rubber)
plus pretty much any other basic tools.
Any help much appreciated.
Oh yeah, I meant to say the washers are in the cabinet area of sink, directly under the handles. I believe it’s considered a bottom mount faucet.

When I reassembled the handle (a one handle Moen, not sure how old it is) it will not push the valve stem down far enough to stop the water flow. What was a washer replacement job is turning into a horrow show. any advice?

It was cold and stormy last night, but no colder than it has been. The kitchen faucet is a one handle job. The cold works fine, but when you move it over to hot, nothing comes out. Any thoughts would be appreciated.
Thanks everyone. I warmed the pipes up in the basement and now I have hot water.

…furniture and tastes. How do I make my apt. more modern and sleek and streamlined without changing hardware?
I really love the modern/contemporary/sleek look. Think track lighting, geometric couches and chairs, straight lines, simple curves, silver, solid colors, minimal color. My furniture reflects that look. Think black, geometric, glass, brushed metal silver.
But the problem is I’m moving into an old, old, old apt whose fixtures can’t be replaced, nor do I have the budget to replace them myself even if I wanted to. The ceiling lighting is really old, the faucets are turn knobs, the cupboards have a regular generic wood trim, the bathroom and kitchen floors are tiled with a non-modern look.
What are detailed suggestions of how I can reconcile the old look of my apt. with my very modern furniture? I really yearn for a modern, tranquil, minimalist, sleek , clean look…whites, blacks, silvers, neutrals, maybe a splash of color here and there but not a lot.
By the way, I’m a guy who’s young and recently out of grad school, in case that helps. I like a modern masculine/neutral look, for example, neutral-colored bamboo sticks instead of flowers.
Thank you.

Hot or cold water, when the handle is turned on, there is a loud studdering noise and the water will stop, I may have to turn on and off a few times to get it to go. Some time back seen a show on HGTV about repairs and it showed about this but I have no idea what it is. It has progressed and now I need to fix it, we try to handle repairs ourselves so if anyone can help me please do.
